Hi everyone,
Just a few more days until Thanksgiving Break! Here's what you can look forward to this week:
Tuesday: -strings
-1 o'clock release
Wednesday: -12 PM release
-Homework due
-No lunch served
Thursday & Friday: No School-- Thanksgiving Break!
Upcoming:
Tuesday, 12/3-- 8:25-9:00 am: Writer's Celebration in the cafeteria! Everyone is invited!
Friday: 12/6: Frieze painting!
Homework:
Word Study/Social Studies: Last week, students made a set of vocabulary cards focused on terms that have come up in our Wampanoag studies. Students will take their set of cards home to play either Memory Match or Go Fish with someone at home! Students should bring their cards back to school on Wednesday!
Math: There is no math homework this week!
Publishing Narratives: Many students have asked if they can continue to type the Personal Narratives at home. All they need to do is sign into Google with their Spy Ponders accounts and passwords, click on Google Classroom and their writing will be there for them to work on!
Wampanoag Friezes: On Friday, 12/6, our class will be working on the final project of our Wampanoag unit: painting giant friezes to represent Wampanoag life in the 1600's during the four seasons! As you can imagine, this project will require some donated materials and times from families. Please follow this sign-up link to see what is needed. We would be very grateful for your help! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0c4da8a62ea4f58-wampanoag1
Here's What's been going on in our classroom:
Math: We have been learning about many strategies to represent our thinking when using addition and subtraction. Many students enjoy using sticker station notation while others have found it helpful to think of combinations to make 100 as helpful hints. We've been playing Close to 100 to practice combining numbers. Follow this link to the "Extra Practice" page so you can play at home!
Reading: We practiced reading Narrative Nonfiction with the lense of "reading to learn". Students have been very motivated to read all of the new biographies in our class library. They're learning about everyone from Louis Braille to the inventor of the Ferris Wheel!
Writing: Students are working hard to add the finishing touches to their Published Personal Narratives. We can't wait to show them off next week at our writer's celebration!
Social Studies: Students researched what jobs Wampanoags had during the different seasons back in the 1600s and voted for which season they'd like to represent on their Frieze. They will find out their seasons tomorrow!
That's all for now! Go Pats!
Ms. McLellan
