Hi everyone,
I hope you found fun ways to stay warm this weekend! Here's what you can look forward to this week:
Monday: -conference sign-ups posted after school
Tuesday:-strings practice
Friday:-homework due
Upcoming:
Wednesday, November 27: 12 PM Dismissal
November 28-29: No School!
Homework:
Math: We learned how to play Capture 5 last week! Students will take home one worksheet with Capture 5 related problems for homework this week and should also play Capture 5 online at least once. You can access the game on our "Extra Practice" Page or by clicking here. I also ask that an adult sign off on your child's homework to let me know that they were able to play this game at home.
Word Study: Students will practicing adding suffixes to words the follow the Vowel-Consonant-E pattern (ex. rake, kite, pole). Students will also begin selecting their own spelling words to review for the week.
Here's what we've been doing in class!
Math: We began practicing using different representations to show our thinking when solving addition problems. After learning how to play the game Capture 5, students reviewed how to use sticker station notation, a concept introduced in second grade. Click here to learn more about some of the representations students will be using when solving addition problems this year.
Reading: Last week, we learned about the two types of nonfiction texts: expository and narrative. This week, we will dive deeper into narrative nonfiction, learning about how to change nonfiction reading lenses when reading this new genre. Students were excited to see a whole new batch of narrative nonfiction (biography) books in our library, so expect to see some of these coming home for nightly reading!
Writing: Everyone in our class is in the publishing phase of the writing process! Students are learning a lot about publishing on a computer. They're discovering how to make paragraphs, how to appropriately punctuate dialogue, and they've been having fun with fonts and text sizes! We will come together for a writer's celebration after Thanksgiving Break!
Social Studies: We learned about what life was like during each of the seasons in the 1600's for The Wampanoags. Students learned that the Wampanoags' lives really depended on resources from nature. We ended our week by researching why Wampanoags are grateful to nature and then reflecting on our own gratitude towards nature as well!
Have a wonderful week!
Ms. McLellan
