Hi everyone,
I hope you've been enjoying your three day weekend! Here are some things to look forward to this week:
Tuesday:-1 o'clock release
-strings practice
Friday:-homework due
Homework:
Math: Students will make a line plot to represent a given set of data and answer some corresponding questions this week. I have been giving a lot of school time to practice x2, x5, and x10 multiplication facts, and it would be great if this practice could continue at home as well. The games linked on the "Extra Practice" page are a great way to review multiplication facts.
Word Study: We will be pausing our work with spelling patterns to focus on learning some new trick words! This week, I will give students the option of bringing home 2nd grade review words or new 3rd grade trick words to practice with (or both). I will also send home a "Tic-Tac-Toe" sheet with different activity choices for students to practice these words!
Last week in 3M...
Math: We shifted our focus from collecting data from different classes to collecting data based off of measurements! We practiced using rulers and yardsticks to measure the lengths of our feet, how far we can do a standing long jump, the length of our classroom, and how far we could blow a pattern block. This week, we'll finish up this unit and begin addition and subtraction!
Reading: Students worked really hard to take their boxes and bullets notes and turn them into summaries! This week, we will begin thinking about how readers read the two different types of nonfiction: expository and narrative.
Writing: Many students began publishing their personal narrative drafts on Chromebooks. Students also got to try out a new typing program that provides some scaffolded keyboarding practice. If you'd like to provide this practice at home, head to www.typingclub.com! If your child has trouble remembering how to log in with their Spy Ponders account, please let me know so I can help!
Social Studies: We have transitioned from science back to social studies! Friday was the kick-off to our Wampanoag unit (one of my favorites of the year)! We read the book Encounter by Jane Yolen and thought about the Native American perspective of Columbus' landing in America. This week, we will continue our research of the Wampanoag way of life way back in the early 1600s!
That's all for now! Have a great week!
