One more week until Winter Break! Here's what you can look forward to this week:

-Homework due!
Holiday Book Swap and Tradition Sharing: Please view this PDF for more info about our class book swap. Also, if you or your family celebrates a holiday/tradition you would like to share with our class, please contact me! We're always looking for ways to incorporate different cultures and traditions into our classroom!
Homework:
Math: Students will work on a double-sided addition practice page! Have fun cracking the secret code on this homework!
Word Study: No word study this week! We will resume after break.
Here's what's been going on in our classroom:
Math: Lately, we've been working on solving distance problems.
Here's an example: The gas station is 37 miles from my house and the park is 112 miles from my house. How far is the gas station from the park?
Students can use number lines and equations to solve these problems. Check out last week's blog post for some videos on the strategies we've been using in class.
Reading: This week, we're going to work on an end-of-unit project: biography buddies! Students will pick a famous person from history they are interested in studying and we will work collecting information on that person tomorrow. This will be a first step towards what's to come in our new writing unit!
Writing: We started our next writing unit: Nonfiction! For the first bend of this unit. students will be writing expert books about an animal of their choice. After some research last week, students were able to select an animal they want to study further. This week, they will begin to organize their information to fit various informational structures!
That's all for now!
